About the Author

Michael G. Maxfield is Professor of Criminal Justice at John Jay College, City University of New York. He is the writer of numerous articles and publications on a variety of themes, including victimization, law enforcement, homicide, community corrections, and enduring effects of child abuse and neglect. Collaborating with students and peers at the John Jay College Research and Evaluation Center, Professor Maxfield devised the evidence era approach to applied justice research. He held the position of editor of the Journal of Research in Crime and Delinquency from 2008-2016.

Earl R. Babbie graduated from Harvard University before enlisting in the U.S. Marine Corps. He earned his Ph.D. from the University of California, Berkeley, and commenced teaching shortly afterwards. Acknowledged for defining investigation techniques for the social sciences, Dr. Babbie has authored several publications, including the acclaimed THE PRACTICE OF SOCIAL RESEARCH and THE FUNDAMENTALS OF SOCIAL RESEARCH.
