James W. Kalat is a retired Professor of Psychology at North Carolina State University, where he lectured on Introduction to Psychology and Biological Psychology courses from 1977 to 2012. He is also the writer of BIOLOGICAL PSYCHOLOGY, thirteenth Edition and co-author with Michelle Shiota of EMOTION, third Edition. Alongside textbooks, he has penned journal articles on taste-aversion learning, the pedagogy of psychology, and other subjects. Dr. Kalat assumed program chair duty twice for the annual gathering of the American Psychological Society, now recognized as the Association for Psychological Science. He earned an A.B. degree with highest honors from Duke University and a Ph.D. in psychology from the University of Pennsylvania.
