About the Author
Mariï¿lle Hoefnagels is an assistant professor in the Department of Biology and the Department of Microbiology and Plant Biology at the University of Oklahoma, where she conducts classes in introductory biology, mycology, and scientific writing. She has earned the University of Oklahoma General Education Teaching Award and the Longmire Prize (the Teaching Students Award from the College of Arts and Sciences). She has also been given honorary memberships in various student honor societies. Dr. Hoefnagels completed her BS in environmental science from the University of California at Riverside, her MS in soil science from North Carolina State University, and her PhD in plant pathology from Oregon State University. Her doctoral research focused on utilizing bacterial biological control agents to reduce the spread of fungal pathogens on seeds. Apart from being the author of Biology: The Core and Biology: Concepts and Investigations, her recent works have centered on developing investigative teaching laboratories and incorporating technology into introductory biology courses. She also manages a blog on teaching nonmajors biology and frequently delivers presentations on study skills and related topics to student groups on campus.
