Leanne Fiftal Alarid is an associate professor in the Department of Criminal Justice at the University of Texas-El Paso. She pursued dual majors in Psychology and Sociology at the University of Northern Colorado. Following this, she worked in Denver as a counselor at a residential facility for women and later as a case manager at an adult halfway house before resuming her education to obtain an M.A. and Ph.D. in Criminal Justice from Sam Houston State University. She served on the faculty at the University of Missouri-Kansas City from 1996-2006, and at the University of Texas at San Antonio from 2006-2013. Dr. Alarid’s research interests encompass post-conviction offender behavior, issues related to mentally unwell offenders, and correctional policy. She has collaborated with numerous criminal justice agencies in various roles such as researcher, consultant, and program evaluator. Dr. Alarid has authored over fifty journal articles and book chapters, co-authored/edited seven other books, and was honored with the Fellow Award by the Academy of Criminal Justice Sciences in 2011 for her exceptional contributions to criminal justice education and service.
