Michelle Inderbitzin is primarily engaged in the study of prison customs, adolescent justice, and transformative education. As an editor of the publication The Voluntary Sector in Prisons: Facilitating Individual and Institutional Change, and as the recipient of the 2017 Teaching Award from the American Society of Criminology, Dr. Inderbitzin has earned recognition. Dr. Inderbitzin received her doctorate in sociology from the University of Washington and has been a faculty member at Oregon State University since 2001. In addition to her on-campus teachings on criminality and anomaly, she consistently conducts classes and contributes voluntarily to Oregon’s highest-security prison for men and state juvenile correctional facilities.
Kristin A. Bates holds the position of professor of criminology and justice studies in the Sociology Department at California State University San Marcos. Her studies concentrate on disparities in criminal justice policies based on race, ethnicity, and gender. She is currently involved in a study assessing the societal implications of civil gang injunctions. She is a co-editor of the volume Through the Eye of Katrina: Fair Treatment in the United States, and a co-author of Juvenile Delinquency in a Diverse Society, both in their revised editions. Dr. Bates obtained her doctorate in sociology from the University of Washington in 1998.
Randy R. Gainey serves as a professor in the Sociology and Criminal Justice Department at Old Dominion University. His research is centered on sentencing choices, alternatives to imprisonment, and the relationship between community characteristics and crime. He has co-authored two additional works: Family Violence and Criminal Justice: An Approach Throughout Life, now in its third edition, and Drugs and Policing. His works have recently been featured in Criminology, Justice Quarterly, Theoretical Criminology, The Prison Journal, The Journal of Criminal Justice, and The Journal of Delinquency and Justice. Dr. Gainey completed his doctorate in sociology in 1995 at the University of Washington.
