Daina S. Eglitis is a connected professor of sociology and global affairs and head of the undergrad program in the Division of Sociology at The George Washington University. Her research highlights sociological factors of transformation in the post-communist realm, concentrating primarily on stratification, impoverishment, and gender. She has earned Fulbright, IREX, and Open Society accolades and is the author of several articles and a publication on post-communist societal alteration. She also composes about and for educating within the college classroom and is the originator of the piece, “The Advantages of Global Poverty: How Inequality Serves the West,” and the Teaching Sociology piece, “Expressing Theory: Theatrical Learning in the Theory Classroom.”
William J. Chambliss, sociological teacher at The George Washington University, was a crucial sociological theorist whose studies have spanned broadly from examinations of legal system formation and the judiciary to contributor observation inquiries of adolescent factions, structured misconduct, law enforcement, and the effect of societal movements on governmental and economic transformation. He served as chair of the American Society of Criminology and the Society for the Study of Social Affairs. He has received various accolades for his research and teaching, including the distinguished Edwin H. Sutherland Award from the American Society of Criminology, the Lifetime Achievement Award from the American Sociological Organization, the Bruce Smith Lifetime Achievement Award from the Academy of Criminal Justice Sciences, the PASS Award from the National Council on Crime and Delinquency, and the Lifetime Achievement Award from the Sociology of Law Section of the American Sociological Organization. He has constructed and managed over 35 publications in sociology, criminology, and criminal justice and numerous essays in social science periodicals.
Susan L. Wortmann is a professor of sociology and gender studies at Nebraska Wesleyan University. Her scholarly passions involve classical sociological conjecture, gender, religion, and health. She conducts courses in these themes and introduction to sociology. She is the initiator of Society: A User’s Guide, a gathering of fundamental sociology readings. She has published essays on significance and devout participation, sociological conjecture, and project analysis, and has contributed to Blackwell’s Encyclopedia of Sociology and the Encyclopedia of Consumer Culture. Dr. Wortmann also practices practical sociology in her community, utilizing sociological approaches, theories, and notions in cooperation with community collaborators to cope with societal matters. These include devising a survivor-centered reaction to campus sexual assault; boosting diabetes and mental well-being access for Karen, Yezidi, Sudanese, and Vietnamese refugees and immigrants; and designing and evaluating programming for at-risk youth.
