John T. Cacioppo served as the Tiffany and Margaret Blake Distinguished Service Professor and directed the Center for Cognitive and Social Neuroscience at the University of Chicago. Previously, he was the head of the Psychology Division at the American Association for the Advancement of Science and has held leading roles in numerous scientific societies, including the Association for Psychological Science and the Society for Personality and Social Psychology. Among his many awards are the Troland Award from the National Academy of Sciences, the Distinguished Scientific Contribution Award from the American Psychological Association, a MERIT Award from the National Institutes of Health, and the Scientific Impact Award from the Society of Experimental Social Psychology.

Laura A. Freberg is a professor of psychology at California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo. She teaches introductory psychology and biological psychology courses through both online and traditional methods. Dr. Freberg began her teaching career by teaching her first college course at Pasadena City College at 23 years old. She has been recognized as Faculty Member of the Year by the Cal Poly Disabilities Resource Center three times (1991, 1994, and 2009) for her dedication to students with disabilities. Dr. Freberg was also the president of the Western Psychological Association (WPA) and currently serves as a psychology consultant for The New York Times In Education. Apart from this book, she has worked on four editions of DISCOVERING PSYCHOLOGY: THE STUDY OF MIND (Cengage) and authored AN INTRODUCTION TO APPLIED BEHAVIORAL NEUROSCIENCE for Taylor & Francis, as well as co-authored RESEARCH METHODS IN PSYCHOLOGICAL SCIENCE (TopHat Monocle). Dr. Freberg earned her Ph.D. from UCLA.
