About the Author
Betty A. Dobratz is Professor of Sociology at Iowa State University. She has written, co-written, or co-edited 14 books or journal editions and over 50 research studies, chapters, and pieces on education. Her jointly written book, White Authority, White Pride! The White Separatist Movement in the U.S., with Stephanie Shanks-Meile, received two sociology book accolades, one from a section of the American Sociological Association (ASA) and the other from the North Central Sociological Association Scholarly Achievement Award. The book was also one of sixteen sociology publications to be featured in Choice’s Outstanding Academic Books list for 1998. Her earlier research concentrated on contemporary Greek politics, and she spent ten months in Greece on a NATO post-doctoral fellowship.
Lisa K. Waldner currently serves as Professor of Sociology and Assistant Dean of the School of Arts and Sciences at the University of St. Thomas where she instructs courses in research techniques, statistics, and sexual orientation. Her published works encompass themes such as political advocacy, bias crimes, LGBTQ+ concerns, and domestic violence. She has earned numerous teaching honors including being designated a John Ireland Professor (2015) and is a recipient of the institution’s Undergraduate Research and Collaborative Scholarship award (2006) for her collaboration with students.
Timothy Buzzell holds the position of Professor of Sociology and Head of the Department of History, Culture and Society at Baker College in Baldwin City, Kansas. He teaches classes in Criminology, Deviation, Politics and Society, Religion, Ritual and Belief, as well as Theory in Sociology. Additionally, he currently acts as the Coordinator of the Social Justice program. His scrutiny on the nature of computer-related crime and deviation has been featured in the journals Deviant Behavior, Sexuality & Culture, and Criminal Justice Studies. Before his tenure at Baker College, he filled the role of Director of the Iowa Center for Law & Civic Education at the Drake Law School in Des Moines, Iowa.
