Accounting Fundamentals for Health Care Management Third Edition Steven A. Finkler

Steven A. Finkler, PhD, CPA, is a retired Professor of Accounting and Financial Management at New York University’s Robert F. Wagner Graduate School of Public Service, overseeing the Healthcare Financial Management specialization for more than two decades. He is a distinguished educator and writer. His repertoire includes eighteen books, among them Accounting Fundamentals for Health Care Management (co-authored with David Ward), Budgeting Concepts for Nurse Managers, and Finance and Accounting for Nonfinancial Managers. Dr. Finkler has authored over 200 articles in various healthcare publications such as Healthcare Financial Management, Health Care Management Review, Hospitals and Health Services Organizations, Health Services Research, and the New England Journal of Medicine. He obtained his B.S. and M.S. degrees from the Wharton School, majoring in Accounting and Finance. His Master’s degree in Economics and Ph.D. in Business Administration were conferred by Stanford University. Dr. Finkler, a Certified Public Accountant, commenced as an auditor at Ernst and Young and previously served on the faculty at the Wharton School before joining NYU. He contributed four years as a member of a National Advisory Board at NIH. Dr. Finkler serves on the Executive Board of the International Society for Research in Healthcare Financial Management, previously sat on the editorial board of Health Care Management Review, and currently holds the role of Treasurer and a Governor at Daughters of Israel Geriatric Center.

David Ward, Ph.D., serves as the Associate Dean for Academic and Student Affairs in the College of Health Professions at the Medical University of South Carolina. Prior to his role as Associate Dean, Dr. Ward was the Chair for the Department of Health Administration and Policy at the Medical University of South Carolina. Dr. Ward’s instructional responsibilities at the Medical University include Financial Management, Healthcare Accounting, and Applied Research Methods. He has numerous peer-reviewed publications in reputable journals like Health Care Financing Review, Public Budgeting and Financial Management, and the American Journal of Public Health. Additionally, Dr. Ward is the co-author of two textbooks on healthcare accounting. Dr. Ward obtained his B.A. from Colgate University and his M.P.A. and Ph.D. from the Robert F. Wagner Graduate School of Public Service at New York University.
