Revised to mirror DSM-5, this condensed version of Durand and Barlow’s widely used book thoroughly explains strange psychology through the authors’ pioneering integrative approach–the most current, scientifically valid method for exploring the subject. With this methodology, readers grasp that psychological disorders are seldom induced by a singular factor, but are ingrained in the dynamic interplay among multiple elements: biological, psychological, cultural, social, familial, and even political. A communicative writing approach, consistent pedagogy, and real case profiles–95 percent from the authors’ personal case files–offer a practical context for the clinical insights of the book. Furthermore, these characteristics ensure that readers never lose sight of the reality that real individuals are behind the DSM-5 criteria, the theories, and the research.
