Barry H. Kantowitz, distinguished Professor Emeritus of Psychology and Industrial & Operational Engineering, and former Director of the Transportation Research Institute at the University of Michigan. Previously, he served as the Chief Scientist at the Human Factors Transportation Center of the Battelle Memorial Institute in Seattle. Dr. Kantowitz earned his Ph.D. in experimental psychology from the University of Wisconsin in 1969. With a portfolio of over twenty-five books authored and edited, his research on human attention, cognitive workload, reaction time, human-computer interaction, and transportation human factors has received funding from institutions such as the Department of Education, the National Institute of Mental Health, NASA, the Air Force Office of Scientific Research, NHTSA, and FHWA.
Henry L. Roediger, III, the James S. McDonnell University Professor of Psychology and Dean of Academic Planning in Arts and Sciences at Washington University in St. Louis. Joining the faculty in 1996, he earned a B.A. in psychology from Washington and Lee University and a Ph.D. in cognitive psychology from Yale University. Dr. Roediger has had teaching stints at Rice University, Purdue University, and the University of Toronto. His primary research interests lie in cognitive psychology, particularly focusing on human learning and memory. With over 250 articles and chapters published, he has authored or edited ten other books, including RESEARCH METHODS IN PSYCHOLOGY, 9th Edition (Cengage, 2012).
David G. Elmes, honored Professor Emeritus of Psychology at Washington and Lee University, where he dedicated forty years to teaching. He completed his B.A. with distinction at the University of Virginia and pursued his M.A. and Ph.D. in psychology at the same institution. Dr. Elmes also served as an adjunct professor at Hampden-Sydney College, a research associate at the Human Performance Center at the University of Michigan, and a Visiting Fellow at University College, University of Oxford. At Washington and Lee, he co-headed the Cognitive Science Program and chaired the Psychology Department for a decade. Professor Elmes edited READINGS IN EXPERIMENTAL PSYCHOLOGY and DIRECTORY OF RESEARCH IN PSYCHOLOGY AT PRIMARILY UNDERGRADUATE INSTITUTIONS, in addition to being the coauthor of RESEARCH METHODS IN PSYCHOLOGY (Cengage, 2012, with B.
