   Author Information:

   Michael M. Cox serves as Assistant Chair in the Department of Biochemistry at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. He completed his B.A. in Biology from the University of Delaware and his Ph.D. in Biochemistry from Brandeis University. Cox’s current research focuses on examining the function of proteins implicated in genetic recombination. His research targets proteins such as bacterial Rec A, Rec F, Rec O, Rec R, Rec G, Ruv A, and RuvB, the yeast Rad 51 protein, and broadly on the process of recombinational DNA repair at stalled replication forks. Jennifer A. Doudna was raised on the Big Island of Hawaii, where her interest in chemistry and biochemistry blossomed during her high school period. She currently holds the positions of Professor of Molecular and Cell Biology and Professor of Chemistry at the University of California, Berkeley, and is also an Investigator with the Howard Hughes Medical Institute. Doudna earned her B.A. in biochemistry from Pomona College and her Ph.D. from Harvard University, conducting research in the lab of Jack Szostak and later as a postdoctoral researcher. Michael O’Donnell earned his Ph.D. from the University of Michigan, where he conducted research under Charles Williams Jr. on electron transfer in the flavoprotein thioredoxin reductase. He pursued postdoctoral studies on E. coli replication with Arthur Kornberg and on herpes simplex virus replication with I. Robert Lehman, both at Stanford University’s biochemistry department. After that, O’Donnell joined the faculty at Weill Cornell Medical College in 1986 and became an Investigator with the Howard Hughes Medical Institute in 1992 before relocating to The Rockefeller University in 1996. O’Donnell is a member of the National Academy of Sciences.
