Material metallurgy is amidst the countless crucial sectors of metallurgical science addressing the advancement of the microstructure of metals to attain appealing properties needed in technological applications. Material Metallurgy: Principles and Design emphasizes the processing–building–properties triangle as it pertains to metals and alloys. It introduces the fundamental principles of physical metallurgy and the design approaches for alloys and processing. The initial segment of the book examines the formation and alteration of structure through phase transformations. The latter part of the books addresses plastic deformation, fortifying mechanisms, and mechanical properties pertinent to structure. The book also includes a section on material metallurgy of steels and concludes by discussing the computational instruments, encompassing computational thermodynamics and kinetics, for conducting alloy and process design.

Biography
Gregory N. Haidemenopoulos has served as Professor of Material Metallurgy and Director of the Laboratory of Supplies (LoM) at School of Thessaly, Greece since 1992. His research is focused on processing-structure-properties in metallic materials, addressing transformation kinetics in TRIP steels, corrosion-induced hydrogen trapping in aluminum alloys, and rolling contact fatigue in rails. Current research is concentrated on computational alloy and process simulation with applications in the design of homogenization of extrudable aluminum alloys, the design of medium-Mn steels, and the thermomechanical process design of HSLA steels. In addition to teaching and research, Prof. Haidemenopoulos has delivered consulting services to industry in the fields of course of design, failure analysis, materials choice, and corrosion management.
Prof. Haidemenopoulos has supervised numerous PhD students and has received the School of Thessaly’s Mechanical Engineering Departmental Best Teaching Award for the years 2007, 2008, 2009, 2011, 2014, and 2015. He is Member of Editorial Board of The Open Corrosion Journal and Worldwide Journal of Metallurgical and Supplies Engineering, published 10 book chapters, 70 papers in refereed journals, and delivered numerous keynote and invited lectures worldwide. Prof. Haidemenopoulos earned his PhD in Metallurgy, MSc in Metallurgy, and MSc in Naval Construction and Marine Engineering from MIT.
