This handbook provides a distinctive introduction to quantum mechanics advancing step by step from elementary quantum mechanics to components of particle physics. It unveils the microscopic world through examination of the sole feasible quantum mechanical system (spin 1/2). An exceptional feature is the author’s utilization of visual aids named process diagrams, which exhibit the computation of amplitudes for quantum mechanical processes. The revised edition incorporates a fresh chapter and discussions on time-varying processes, encompassing new material on quantum computing and enhanced illustrations.
Key Features:
-
- Delivers an extremely current textual content with expanded contents.
-
- Comprises a brand new chapter on time-varying processes and extended coverage of recent advancements in particle physics.
-
- Highlights a visual approach using process diagrams and incorporates new figures.
- Incorporates quantum information theory in a new appendix, with other valuable supplements on notation, lattice models, weak flavor mixing, and numerical simulations.

Biography
Walter Wilcox is professor of physics at Baylor University in Waco, TX, USA, and currently serves as Secretary/Treasurer in the Texas Section of the American Physical Society. He obtained a PhD in fundamental particle physics from UCLA in 1981 under the guidance of Dr. Julian Schwinger. He has also lectured and engaged in research at Oklahoma State University (1981–1983), TRIUMF Laboratory (1983–1985), and the University of Kentucky (1985–1986). He has been granted funding from the National Science Foundation in theoretical physics, and, in collaboration with Ron Morgan, in applied mathematics. His research focuses on the development and application of numerical methods in the field of theoretical physics known as “lattice QCD.” He resides in Waco, Texas, and enjoys hiking and camping.
