Accounting Fundamentals for Health Care Management Third Edition Steven A. Finkler

Steven A. Finkler, PhD, CPA holds the position of Professor Emeritus in Accounting and Financial Management at the Robert F. Wagner Graduate School of Public Service at New York University, where he supervised the specialization in Healthcare Financial Management for more than two decades. He is a distinguished educator and writer. Among his works are eighteen publications, including Principles of Accounting in Health Care Management (co-authored with David Ward), Budgeting Principles for Nursing Administrators, and Financial and Accounting Guidelines for Nonfinancial Executives. Dr. Finkler has contributed to over 200 articles in journals such as Health Care Management Review, Healthcare Financial Management, Hospitals and Health Services Organizations, Health Services Research, the New England Journal of Medicine, and various other health care publications. He completed his B.S. and M.S. at the Wharton School, majoring in Accounting and Finance. He attained his Master’s in Economics and Ph.D. in Business Administration from Stanford University. Dr. Finkler, who is also a Certified Public Accountant, served as an auditor at Ernst and Young and was part of the faculty at the Wharton School before joining NYU. He spent four years on a National Advisory Board at the National Institutes of Health. He is a member of the Executive Board for the International Society for Research in Healthcare Financial Management, a former member of the editorial board of Health Care Management Review, and presently serves as Treasurer and a member of the Board of Governors at Daughters of Israel Geriatric Center.

David Ward, Ph.D., currently holds the position of Associate Dean for Academic and Student Affairs at the College of Health Professions at the Medical University of South Carolina. Before this role, Dr. Ward was the Chairman of the Department of Health Administration and Policy at the Medical University of South Carolina. Dr. Ward’s teaching at the Medical University includes Financial Management, Health Care Accounting, and Application of Research Methods. Dr. Ward has multiple publications in peer-reviewed journals such as Health Care Financing Review, Public Budgeting and Financial Management, and the American Journal of Public Health. Furthermore, Dr. Ward co-authored two textbooks on health care accounting. He completed his B.A. at Colgate University and obtained his M.P.A. and Ph.D. from the Robert F. Wagner Graduate School of Public Service at New York University.
