ISBN-13978-0077732509Core principles integral to the William Messier Jr./Glover/Prawitt textbook consist of: student involvement, a methodical approach, and decision-making processes. Student Engagement: The writers believe in equipping students with a solid grasp of the fundamental principles underlying the audit process and how to apply these principles to various audit and assurance services. The content is made accessible to students through clear writing and the use of engaging, relevant real-world examples, visuals, and comparisons. The content explicitly urges students to pause and reflect at crucial points in the text to assist them in applying covered concepts and also helps students visualize the application of concepts in a practical context through “practice insight” sections.
A Systematic Approach: The authors initially introduce the three foundational concepts of audit risk, materiality, and evidence, then progress to discuss audit planning, the assessment of management risk, and a discourse on the nature, timing, and extent of evidence required to achieve the appropriate level of detection risk. These concepts are then applied to each significant business process and related account balances using a risk-based approach, (in alignment with the new standards embraced by the various auditing boards).
Decision Making: Given that much of auditing practice involves the application of auditor judgment, the writers focus on significant judgments and decision-making processes. If a student comprehends these fundamental concepts and how to apply them to an audit engagement, they can be more effective in today’s dynamic audit environment. The new edition even integrates a full advanced module on Professional Judgment.Author Information
