3. George Ritzer is a well-respected College Professor at the College of Maryland, where he has also been honored as a Scholar-Teacher and received recognition for his excellent teaching. He was presented with the Distinguished Contributions to Teaching Award by the American Sociological Association, an honorary degree from LaTrobe University in Australia, and the Robin Williams Lectureship by the Eastern Sociological Society. His most famous publication, The McDonaldization of Society (8th ed.), has been widely studied by hundreds of thousands of students for over 20 years and translated into multiple languages. Ritzer is also known for editing McDonaldization: The Reader and writing other significant works of critical sociology related to the McDonaldization theory, including Enchanting a Disenchanted World, The Globalization of Nothing, and Expressing America: A Critique of the World Credit Card Society. He has authored a series of popular social theory textbooks and Globalization: A Fundamental Text. Additionally, he serves as the Editor of the Encyclopedia of Social Theory (2 vols.), the Encyclopedia of Sociology (11 vols.; 2nd edition forthcoming), the Encyclopedia of Globalization (5 vols.), and is the Founding Editor of the Journal of Consumer Culture. In 2016, he will release the second edition of Essentials of Sociology with SAGE.
