Sherif D. El Wakil, PhD, holds the position of Chancellor Professor of Mechanical Engineering at the University of Massachusetts, Dartmouth. With over 40 years of academic experience, Dr. El Wakil has taught a wide range of manufacturing engineering programs at both the undergraduate and graduate levels. He has also held various administrative roles, including Dean, Chairman of the Academic Council of the College of Engineering, and Chairman of the Mechanical Engineering Department. Dr. El Wakil has implemented numerous programs at the undergraduate and graduate levels and overseen their rise to national prominence. He is the author of Operations and Production for Manufacturing, a work that has been translated into multiple languages and adopted by many of the top engineering programs worldwide. Dr. El Wakil has received numerous research grants from NSF, NIST, and SME, and he was honored with the USAF Fellowship. He has provided consulting services for numerous national and international manufacturing companies and served as an expert witness before courts. A member of the Society of Manufacturing Engineers (SME) since 1984, Dr. El Wakil was elected a member of the North American Manufacturing Research Institute (NAMRI) in the same year. Additionally, he has served as a member and chair of the Curriculum Committee of the SME Education Foundation. His professional excellence and consistent contributions to the activities of the SME have been recognized with the President’s Award twice, in 1985 and 2006. He became a lifelong member of SME in 2015.
