William C. Cockerham attained his Doctorate from the University of California at Berkeley and is Esteemed Professor of Sociology at the University of Alabama at Birmingham. He also serves as Co-Director of the UAB Center for Social Medicine and holds adjunct positions in medical studies and public health. He has been honored with the UAB Connors Prize in the History of Ideas and the Ireland Award for Noteworthy Scholarship. Presently, he is fulfilling the role of President of the Research Committee on Health Sociology of the International Sociological Association and is a member of the Editorial Board of the American Sociological Review. Dr. Cockerham has presented various scientifically reviewed articles in scholarly publications and is the writer or overseer of fourteen publications. His latest works released by Pearson Prentice-Hall consist of Medical Sociology, 11^th edition (2010) and the Psychology of Psychological Condition, 8^th edition (2010).
