Over 60 years, the book Accounting of Governmental & Nonprofit Entities stands out as a foremost offering. It’s a detailed text on governmental and not-for-profit accounting, tailored for students aiming to audit and work in entities within the public and not-for-profit sector. Initially released in 1951 by Professor R. M. Mikesell, subsequent editions were revised by Professors Leon Hay, Earl Wilson, Susan Kattelus, Jacqueline Reck, and Suzanne Lowensohn—continuing to equip both instructors and students with comprehensive knowledge on the specific accounting and financial reporting practices of governmental and not-for-profit organizations. These editions also focus on how these entities can better meet the information needs of various financial statement users and decision makers. The essence of the original authors’ vision remains embedded in this 17th edition. The strategy of providing an extensive and innovative range of instructional materials tested in classrooms continues to be a core principle guiding this text today. The current authors leverage their vast experience in teaching government and not-for-profit courses, as well as insights from their professional expertise, scholarly writings, and professional engagements. The outcome is a pertinent, accurate text with highly effective instructional resources.
