Author Overview

Professor Pamela Davies endeavors primarily in gender, crime, harm, victimization, and justice studies. Merging her concerns over victimology and social harm with a critical/feminist perspective, she has investigated various modern social challenges – both conspicuous and concealed. Her initial research delved into female transgressions and the interplay between women’s criminal behaviors and encounters with victimization. More recently, she has probed the dilemmas concerning social and environmental equity through a case study method. She has helmed several research projects and assessments of multi-agency innovations handling gender-biased forms of harm, such as interpersonal violence, domestic mistreatment, the management of serial offenders, and support for victims. The influence of gender on our life experiences continues to stimulate fresh areas of exploration, and she is currently collaborating on ‘gendering green criminology’ with colleagues.
Pam has extensively published on victimization and social harm, and on the interconnectedness of gender with community safety, public defense, and welfare. Her recent works include Crime and Power co-written with Tanya Wyatt and Victimology Research Policy and Activism co-edited with Jacki Tapley. She serves as the series overseer for the Palgrave Macmillan ‘Victims and Victimology’ book series (with Associate Professor Tyrone Kirchengast, University of New South Wales, Sydney).

Professor Michael Rowe focuses his research primarily on authority and administration in law enforcement, as well as the changing structure and execution of policing concerning diversity, professionalization, the application of Evidence Based Policing, and the obstacles of policing in a digital era. In a recent project, he explored the altering scope of visible policing in response to the influences of police facilities, material essence, and social media on public perspectives of legitimacy and power, and on the professional culture and identity of police officers and personnel. Other schemes have evaluated innovative policing responses to domestic violence, organizational and cultural transformation in the handling of adult sexual assault incidents, and the moral and administrative challenges of employing scientific research and AI technologies in contemporary policing. Currently, he is formulating research on the policing of Anthropocentric climate change. He has issued numerous publications concerning these issues and related topics in the British Journal of Criminology, Policing and Society, Public Management Review, the Journal of Contemporary Ethnography, Criminology and Criminal Justice, and various other periodicals. His publications include Policing the Police (Policy Press, 2020) and Accountability in Policing: Contemporary Debates (Routledge, 2015, co-edited with Stuart Lister) and Introduction to Policing (Sage, 2018, third edition). He presides over the International Journal of Police Science and Management.
