About the Author

Dr. Harold E. Doweiko, a certified psychotherapist, has been part of the team at the Gundersen-Lutheran Medical Center in La Crosse, Wisconsin, for 19 years. He is involved with the substance abuse recovery program, the chronic pain management program, and traditional adult mental health patients, including those with “co-occurring disorders.” He has been associated with the La Crosse County Drug Court for several years, and has testified as an expert witness on substance use disorders in federal and state courts in Kansas, Wisconsin and Minnesota. Dr. Doweiko has been a part-time faculty member at universities in both Wisconsin and Minnesota, most recently at the Viterbo University counseling education program in La Crosse, Wisconsin.
