   978-1544333915Serena Nanda is retired professor of sociology at John Jay Faculty of Prison Justice, Metropolis College of New York. She has written two sociological crime mysteries, The Offering of a Spouse: A Tale of Sociology, Marriage, and Crime, a narrative set in an Indian immigrant community in New York City, and Assisted Dying: An Ethnographic Crime Thriller on Florida’s Gold Coast. Her other published works include Neither Man Nor Woman: The Hijras of India, recipient of the 1990 Ruth Benedict Prize; American Cultural Pluralism and Law; Gender Diversity: Crosscultural Variations; and a New York City guidebook, 40 Great New York Days: Walks and Rambles In and Around the City. She has always been fascinated by the narratives people share and by the mosaic of human diversity. Sociology was the ideal avenue for her to delve into these interests, and, through teaching, to spread awareness about the significance of comprehending both human disparities and similarities.

   Richard L. Warms is sociology professor at Texas State University. His published works comprise Sociological Theory: An Introductory History; Theory in Social and Cultural Sociology: An Encyclopedia; and Sacred Realms: Essays in Religion, Belief, and Society. He has also authored academic papers on commerce, religion, and ethnic identity in West Africa; African exploration and romanticism; and African veterans of French colonial armed forces. Warms’s fascination with sociology was ignited by college courses and by his service as a Peace Corps Volunteer in West Africa. He has journeyed extensively in Africa, Europe, Asia, and South America. He continues to offer Introduction to Cultural Sociology as well as courses in sociological theory, the sociology of religion, economic sociology, and film at both the undergraduate and graduate level.
